Opening your car's hood especially for new drivers can be quite confusing and overwhelming, which why it is important to understand and identify these parts and componens to give you an idea how to ensure your car is working in great condition. This article enlists the 4 main components of a car engine.

1. Cylinder Block/Engine Block

The cylinder block or engine block is one of your car engine's main component. It is a large piece of solid metal made of cast iron or aluminum alloy. It is usually placed in the middle of your automotive's engine bay, and is the larget engine component. A Cylinder Block's provides stability of the engine while keeping the lubrication and temperature in an optimal level.

2. Pistons

Pistons are moving parts that is responsible for converting the energy released during the combustion process into a mechanical work, basically transforming heat energy into mechanical energy. Pistons transfers the created energy during the combustion phase and is transmitted in the Crankshaft., which helps propel your car.

3. Crankshaft

Known as the backbone of the internal combustion engine, crankshafts are responsible to operate in converting linear motion to rotational motion, which rotates with the Engine Block. Crankshafts can be found where the pistons are mounted. While crankshafts initially takes the up and down movement of the pistons, it converts them to a rotary motion inline with the engine speed.

4. Camshaft

A camshhaft is an engine component that controls the input of the fuel and expulsion of exhaust fumes. It is a rod saped component located in the cylinder head of the engine. It rotates and slides against a piece of particular mechanical part to convert rotary motion into linear motion. Camshafts allows the engine to function accordingly by opening its valves in sync with the crankshaft.
